Port guide · Ireland
Ireland's busiest continental ferry port, on the southeast coast of County Wexford. Your gateway to France and mainland Europe — no UK detour required.
Location
Rosslare Europort sits on the southeast tip of Ireland, in the village of Rosslare Harbour, County Wexford. It's the closest Irish port to continental Europe — about 580 nautical miles from Cherbourg, against roughly 750 nm from Dublin — and that geography is the whole reason Brittany Ferries chose it as the Irish anchor for the direct France route.
The port has changed shape since Brexit. European sailings jumped from 6 weekly departures before 2021 to 36 weekly departures by 2025. Freight volumes climbed 14 % and passenger numbers 10 % in 2025 alone. Since 1 October 2025 Brittany Ferries has been the sole operator on the Cherbourg link, running 7 sailings per week year-round (Stena Line withdrew on 30 September 2025 after a decade on the route).
Day-to-day, the terminal feels small and walkable: one main building with check-in desks, a café/restaurant upstairs, the Department of Agriculture vet office on the ground floor for the pet inspection, and a short drive (3–5 min) from the holding lanes to the ramps once boarding opens.
Terminal facilities
A restaurant and waterfront bar are open in the terminal building. Grab a meal or a coffee while you wait to board.
Children's play area, baby changing facilities, and a comfortable waiting area. Shops and a bureau de change are also on site.
Car hire desks are available in the terminal. The Department of Agriculture has an on-site office for agricultural and pet inspections.
Connections
Rosslare isn't just about Cherbourg. The port connects Ireland to multiple destinations across Britain and continental Europe.

Getting there
Rosslare Europort is well signposted from the N25 (Waterford direction) and the N11 (Dublin/Wexford direction). Follow signs for the ferry terminal once you reach Rosslare village. Allow extra time during peak travel periods.
Bus Éireann operates services to Rosslare Europort from Dublin, Waterford, Cork and Wexford town. Buses connect with sailing times during peak season. Check schedules in advance.
Irish Rail runs services to Rosslare Europort station from Dublin Connolly, with connections through Wexford. The station is right at the terminal — you can walk from the platform to check-in.
Check-in
Standard passengers (cars, motorhomes, foot passengers): Arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure. Brittany Ferries closes check-in 30 minutes before sailing, and the boarding ramp closes 15 minutes before — late arrivals do not board, no exceptions. Have your booking confirmation, photo ID and vehicle registration ready.
Travelling with pets: Arrive at least 90 minutes before departure. You'll need an EU pet passport or AHC, a microchip, and a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old. The Department of Agriculture office at the terminal handles the entry inspection. Pet kennels and pet-friendly cabins on the Cherbourg service sell out fast in July and August — book the kennel as part of the original booking, not on the day.
Freight operators: Check-in closes 2 hours before departure. Contact the Brittany Ferries Rosslare freight team on +353 (0)53 916 1505 or the general booking line on 021 427 7801 for booking queries.
Insider tip: If you're driving from Dublin, leave at least 2 h 30 min for the M11/N11 — roadworks south of Gorey are a regular cause of missed sailings in summer. Coming from Cork or Killarney, the N25 is faster than satnav suggests on a Sunday morning.
