Good to have

At the terminal

What to expect when you arrive.

Rosslare Europort

Follow signs for Brittany Ferries when you arrive at the port. Drive to the check-in booths, where staff will scan your booking and issue boarding passes. You'll then be directed to a waiting lane.

The terminal has a restaurant, waterfront bar, waiting area with seating, shops, a children's play area, baby changing facilities, and a bureau de change. Car hire desks and the Department of Agriculture office are also on site.

Cherbourg

The ferry terminal is well-signposted from the N13. Check-in booths are located at the entrance to the port area. A free shuttle service runs between the car park and the terminal building.

Facilities include tourist information, fast food, baby changing, and nearby train connections to the city centre (about 5 minutes).

Boarding

Getting on board.

The boarding process

Once check-in is complete, you'll wait in your vehicle in the marshalling area. Port staff will direct lanes of vehicles onto the ship when boarding begins, usually 30–45 minutes before departure.

Drive onto the car deck following crew directions, park where indicated, and take your essentials (overnight bag, valuables, medication) up to the passenger decks. The car deck is closed during the crossing, so take everything you'll need.

Foot passengers

Foot passengers board via a separate walkway. Follow signs in the terminal for foot passenger boarding. You'll be guided to the passenger decks directly.

Pets

If you've booked a kennel, you'll settle your pet in before heading to the passenger decks. Kennel facilities are located on the vehicle deck. You can visit your pet during designated times during the crossing.

Travel tips

For a smooth boarding.

🎒

Pack an overnight bag

The car deck is sealed during sailing. Pack pyjamas, toiletries, chargers, medication, and anything you'll need for the 18-hour crossing in a separate bag.

🔒

Secure your vehicle

Lock your car and close all windows. Leave the handbrake on and the vehicle in gear (or Park for automatics). Note your deck and lane number.

📱

Save your booking

Screenshot your booking confirmation or save the email offline. Mobile signal can be patchy at port, and you'll need your reference at check-in.

Arrive a little early

Give yourself a buffer. Arriving 10–15 minutes before the minimum check-in time lets you explore the terminal and board without rushing.
