On Board · Pet Travel
Your pet can travel with you on the Cherbourg-Rosslare crossing. Book a kennel, bring the right documents, arrive a bit early -- and you're all set.
Essentials
Travelling with your pet between Ireland and France is straightforward, but there are a few things you need to sort out before you go. Here's the short version.
Book a kennel
Pets travel in on-board kennels during the crossing. You'll need to book your kennel when you book your ticket -- spaces are limited, so don't leave it to the last minute.
Pet passport or AHC
Your pet needs a valid EU pet passport or Animal Health Certificate (AHC). This must include proof of a valid rabies vaccination, given at least 21 days before travel.
Arrive 90 minutes early
If you're travelling with a pet, check in at least 90 minutes before departure (not the standard 45 minutes). This allows time for document checks at the port.
Tapeworm treatment
Dogs travelling to certain countries need a tapeworm treatment administered by a vet 1-5 days before travel. Check the current requirements for your destination.
On board
Once on board, your pet will stay in their kennel on the vehicle deck or a designated pet area. The kennels are secure, well-ventilated, and sheltered from the elements. You can visit your pet during the crossing at designated times -- the crew will let you know when access to the pet area is available.
Pets aren't allowed in passenger areas, cabins, restaurants or lounges. This is for the comfort and safety of all passengers. It's an overnight crossing, so your pet will be sleeping for most of it -- just like you.
Rules & regulations
Number of pets
There's a limit on the number of pets per sailing. Kennel spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so book yours as early as possible.
Which pets can travel?
Dogs and cats are welcome. Other animals may be accepted -- contact Brittany Ferries directly to check. Assistance dogs travel free and may accompany their owner in passenger areas.
Pets in vehicles
